Sittingbourne. George fought in both the 1st and 2nd battle of Ypres. He was killed by shell fire.

Ernest Henry Beer MM

Ernest of Sprotts Hill, Milton, earned his Military Medal on the 1st October 1917 and died of
wounds two days later. On the day he earned his medal, Ernest's position had come under heavy enemy shell fire. With
little regard for his own safty, Ernest ran from the shelter of his dug out to his gun and brought it into action against
the enemy positions. A shell burst close to him, severly wounding him, but Ernest refused to be taken away from his
position and stayed to encourage his gun team until the situation was under control.
For this selfless act Ernest was awarded the Military Medal.
