Eldest son of Mr & Mrs James Skinner of 42 Murston rd.
Before the war sidney worked for Mr Kingsmill a jeweller in Sittingbourne, He Joined up at the age of 16 and was killed three and a half years later. Sidney was wounded in action on March 27th 1918 he died a few days later in a General Hospital in Rouen. His mother received the following letter from the matron.
"I am so very sorry to have to tell you that your son ,Gunner S Skinner, died in hospital to-day at 5:10 a.m. I can assure you he had all done for him that was possible. He was seen by the Chaplain, and will be buried in the military cemetery here... May I say how very sorry I am for you in this trouble. The poor boy was not 20 i believe."
